The Vishnu Purana (Viṣṇupurāṇa) is one of the eighteen Mahapuranas, a foundational text of Vaishnavism. H.H. Wilson’s 1840 English translation is the first scholarly complete translation and remains in the public domain.

The Kalki Prophecy (4.24)
Book 4 Chapter 24 is the earliest systematic Kalki prophecy in Sanskrit literature. Key elements:
- Birth: Village of Shambhala, brahmin family of Vishnuyasha
- Mission: Destroy the robber-kings of the Kali Age
- Mount: Fleet horse (later named Devadatta in BP)
- Weapon: Blazing sword
- Outcome: Re-establishment of righteousness; Satya Yuga begins
